
SWANA’s Excellence Awards Program recognizes outstanding solid waste programs and facilities that advance the practice of environmentally and economically sound solid waste management through their commitment to utilizing effective technologies and processes in system design and operations, advancing worker and community health and safety, and implementing successful public education and outreach programs. Programs also must demonstrate that they are fiscally and environmentally responsible through their compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations.
SWANA recognizes programs and facilities with Gold, Silver or Bronze awards in 14 categories. Nomination forms, which detail the application submittal process, provide deadlines, and outline the scoring criteria, are available below. Nomination packets for the 2012 Excellence Awards are no longer being accepted.

Before you upload your Excellence Award Nomination(s) for consideration, please ensure you have completed the following three components.
- Nomination Form
- Register for the Nomination Fee on the SWANAstore for upload instructions
- Upload Nomination Form and Program/Facility Description by Friday, April 20, 2012
Winner Recognition
All winners are publicly recognized and presented with their award at an Awards Banquet held at WASTECON. The winners are also highlighted in various outlets, including MSW Management.
Excellence Award winners are also often invited to speak on their program at SWANA’s specialty symposia, eSessions and WASTECON. In short, the NATIONAL recognition you will receive as an award winner will sure to boost your reputation and prominence as a leader in the industry.
