Division Volunteer Opportunities

Welcome!
SWANA’s Planning and Management Division is made up of over 300 executive–level solid waste directors and managers from across North America. The Division focuses on developing innovative solutions to the most pressing questions and challenges faced by today’s solid waste decision-makers, and provides subscribers with the information they need to stay on the cutting-edge of the solid waste field. The Division accomplishes its goals through a number of events and sub–committees that promote effective leadership in solid waste management.

What We Do:
The Planning and Management Division is committed to providing timely and comprehensive content to all subscribers through a number of key initiatives and programs. Here is a summary of just a few of the Division’s many activities:

Planning and Management Training:
The Division was responsible for the development of several training courses that focus on equipping solid waste management leaders with the knowledge they need to run a successful program and effectively respond to challenges. Current courses available include Managing Integrated Solid Waste Management Systems.
Legislative, Advocacy, and Rulemaking:
SWANA’s Planning & Management Division closely monitors current regulatory activities for proposed rulemaking that may have an impact on solid waste management. The Division regularly requests input from subscribers to assist in the development of SWANA’s position in response to proposed rules and legislation. Recently, the Division has been paying particular attention to developments surrounding trans-border waste issues.
Quarterly Newsletter:
The Division’s quarterly e-Newsletter provides Planning & Management Division subscribers with up-to-date industry-related news, SWANA events of note, and unique case studies of interest.
Awards:
The Planning & Management Division currently evaluates and presents one of SWANA's Excellence Awards at WASTECON every year, which recognizes outstanding Solid Waste Management Systems.
