Lessons Learned in Developing and Operating a Small Landfill Gas to CNG Vehicle Fuel Project
Lessons Learned in Developing and Operating a Small Landfill Gas to CNG Vehicle Fuel Project
Speaker: Mark J. Torresani, Senior Project Engineer, Cornerstone Environmental Group, LLC
Session Description: A biogas to compressed natural Gas (CNG) vehicle fuel project has been operating at the Dane County Rodefeld Landfill near Madison, Wisconsin since January 2011. This eSession will discuss information regarding system operations, system modifications, quality of the fuel, the cost of BioCNG production and how BioCNG utilization differs from use of natural gas derived CNG.
The web seminar will provide an understanding of the challenges that are faced when producing a small quantity of vehicle fuel in the form of CNG from landfill gas. It will also review how CNG vehicles have performed on CNG fuel made from landfill gas and explore the challenges of coordinating LFG collection, CNG fuel production, CNG fueling station operations and vehicle fuel use.
This project involves partners from the private and public sector and has provided valuable information regarding the use of biogas as a vehicle fuel on a small scale. The project partners and supporters include Dane County Solid Waste Department, Unison Solutions, ANGI Energy Systems, and Cornerstone Environmental Group. This project was designed and operated to produce an economically viable quantity of biogas based fuel to power CNG vehicles. The design of the biogas cleanup technology used for his project led to the Patent Pending process for producing BioCNG vehicle fuel from landfill gas, anaerobic digester biogas from wastewater treatment plants and food and agricultural waste processing.
