Session Description: This web seminar will outline a vision for landfill property end-use that fully integrates the native environment into the planning and design process. This type of practice can create benefits in the both the short- and long-term for the landfill property owner and the surrounding community.
This eSession will present the characteristics and value of a robust landfill property site master plan as compared to an end-use plan that minimally meets code requirements. Site master plan options to be explored during this eSession will emphasize restoring ecological function and include naturalized park viewscapes, conservation opportunities, passive recreation, and even embracing the man-made look of an engineered landfill.
The presentation will examine the numerous benefits that can accrue from creating a landfill property site master plan that incorporates functional ecosystem services. These include money savings, expedited permits, reduced post-closure care escrows, goodwill among the community, and aesthetics.
