The Lockwood Regional Landfill is located within Storey County approximately 10 miles east of Reno. This modern, RCRA Subtitle D landfill began accepting waste in June 1969. It currently occupies approximately 350 acres of nearly 2,700-acres site. The Lockwood Landfill is engineered to protect the air, surface and groundwater. In 2012, a landfill gas-to-energy facility was built to naturally derive from the organics in a landfill, making it a source of “green” energy.
