Invited Session: Smart Technologies
3D Modeling and Remote Monitoring Control (RMC) Systems for Landfills (0.5 CEU)
Monday, September 25, 2017
16:15 – 16:45
Three dimensional (3D) modeling and RMC systems are two newer technologies being used at landfills to assist landfill managers and engineers to better visualize, design and manage their landfills. This presentation will describe these technologies and present examples of these technologies in action. Three-dimensional models can be used to depict a landfill and its landfill gas (LFG) collection system so that landfill managers and engineers can:
- Visualize current and future progression of a landfill
- Provide assistance in troubleshooting problems with the LFG collection system
- Design the expansion of a landfill gas collection network as filling progresses
The use of RMC systems allows landfill managers and engineers to receive and react to real-time data provided via the RMC system. Adjustments to RMC based systems, based on alerts or alarms received from the RMC system, can be made remotely at any time of day without having to be present on-site. RMC techniques can be applied to systems including blower/flare stations, pump stations, and tank systems.
Attendees of this presentation will learn about the future of technology and its application with landfills. The presentation will provide case studies of using these types of technologies on landfills and how they have made the design and controls aspect more efficient.
