Food waste diversion changes the overall make-up of the waste stream used for waste to energy projects. This presentation evaluates the effect on fuel preparation, net heat value, energy recovery, emissions and ash characteristics for projects with 0 percent, 50 percent and 100 percent reduction. Comparison tools include proximate and ultimate analysis, mass flow and energy balance.

Following the presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Evaluate the effect that food waste diversion has on the design and performance of new fluidized bed waste to energy projects
  • Compare projects with 0 percent, 50 percent and 100 percent food waste diversion rates
