International Solid Waste Association Announces New Managing Director
The International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) has appointed W. Gregory Vogt to be the new Managing Director of its global organization. Vogt assumed the role on April 1. He replaces Mrs. Suzanne Arup Veltzé who held the position since 1 August 1997. Mrs. Veltzé continues on as Managing Director of DAKOFA, the Danish Waste Management Association. Mr. Vogt is based in metropolitan Washington, D.C.
"These are exciting times for the solid waste industry and the professionals that provide environmentally sound services to the public every day. As ISWA strives to promote and develop sustainable solid waste management worldwide, the addition of Mr. Vogt is part of the Board's strategy to address the anticipated growth of waste management services together with the continued demand for improved environmental performance," said Niels J. Hahn, President and Chairman of the ISWA Board.
"ISWA is fortunate to have Vogt lead the organization at this time. He has served many years within the governance of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), has been instrumental with regulatory reform efforts with the Environmental Industry Associations (EIA), and has worked with numerous solid waste associations, particularly those emerging in developing countries", continued Hahn. Mr. Vogt also served as the Chair of ISWA's Sanitary Landfill Working Group since 2000 and as a member of the ISWA Board since 2003.
Mr. Vogt most recently served as a vice president of SCS Engineers (SCS) where he worked for 26 years. He has a strong background in solid waste management, waste characterization, and landfills, with special expertise in field investigations, training programs, recycling and waste reduction studies, landfill biogas energy systems, and alternatives analyses for public/private partnerships. "ISWA has demonstrated that it is the principal association addressing global geographic needs and solutions for the solid waste management field," said David E. Ross, P.E., SCS' Senior Vice President, International Services. "We are proud to be a corporate member of ISWA and look forward to the application of Greg's considerable talents and contributions toward fostering better solid waste management practices throughout the world."
