SWANA Executive Director Speaks At Hauler Safety Event
Collecting solid waste historically has been a dangerous occupation. Solid waste haulers work around heavy machinery and in all traffic and weather conditions. It's important that every measure is taken to keep collection and haulers safe.
The Executive Director and CEO of The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), John H. Skinner, Ph.D., spoke earlier today at a hauler safety event at Covanta's Fairfax, Virginia facility. Skinner was one of eight (8) speakers at today's event, held in recognition of National Hauler Safety Month, and hosted by Covanta in cooperation with The Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Alliance Program and the Integrated Waste Services Association (ISWA).
"Safety starts with a management philosophy that injuries can be prevented and managers must be accountable for the safety of their operations", said Skinner "Our primary concern must be the health and welfare of our employees, and the haulers and citizens that they serve" he added.
