John Skinner To Address Climate-Waste Connection

SWANA Executive Director and CEO John Skinner, Ph.D., has been invited to speak at the New Frontiers in Recycling and Waste Management Conference at the University of Maryland, College Park, on Wednesday, June 25, 2008. Skinner will discuss SWANA’s new initiative “The Energy, Climate & Waste Connection” that will discuss how the solid waste industry can play an influential role in the creation of alternative energy sources to reduce the effects of global warming and climate change.

“I think it really important for solid waste and recycling professionals to address critical energy and climate control challenges,” remarked Skinner, “I am very pleased to be able to address the Maryland Recyclers Coalition and to explain how recycling and energy recovery from solid waste can make a positive impact towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”

Hosted by the Maryland Recyclers Coalition and the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America, the two-day conference will offer technical sessions and exhibits covering the important issues facing the industry today including, carbon credits and offsets, globalization vs. localization, carbon calculators, and more.
