ISWA White Paper On Waste & Climate Change Submitted To The Copenhagen Un Climate Summit

The International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) has submitted the Waste and Climate Change White Paper to the 15th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP15) currently taking place in Copenhagen. This conference is the largest and most important climate change conference in the United Nation’s history with diplomats in attendance from 192 nations. SWANA is the National Member of ISWA for Canada and the United States and participated in the development of the report.

ISWA developed the Waste and Climate Change White Paper to set forth the technologies, mechanisms and targeted actions that can transform the solid waste sector into a global reducer of GHG emissions. ISWA is the only international association promoting sustainable development in the solid waste management sector and the release of the white paper affirms their commitment to facilitating global improvement in waste management strategies.

John H. Skinner, Executive Director and CEO of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), participated in the development of the paper by writing the section on new federal policy initiatives in the U.S. and by providing North American references that were included in the report.
