SWANA Announces 2014 Faculty Award Winners
Honorees to be recognized at WASTECON® 2014

Silver Spring, MD — The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2014 Faculty Awards.

SWANA faculty consists of more than 80 dedicated SWANA members who volunteer their time to help keep the industry strong and viable through training and continuing education. Each year, faculty members are recognized for their leadership, outstanding work and dedication with the Commitment to Service Faculty Award, Tenured Faculty Award, or Most Certifications Held Faculty Award.

“We owe our gratitude to all SWANA Faculty. They are the ones who have made SWANA a recognized leader in training and education for the industry. Their willingness to share their knowledge and expertise with solid waste professionals around the world makes the industry better and safer,” said Director of Education and Training Programs Patricia Scott Timus. “We are pleased to recognize these individuals for their continuing contributions to SWANA and the industry.”

The 2014 Faculty Awards honors three individuals who commit their time and skills and knowledge to keep SWANA and the solid waste industry strong.

The Commitment to Service Faculty Award recognizes the faculty member who has gone above and beyond to assist SWANA training in 2014. This year’s honoree, Matt Cotton, has actively contributed to course updates, exam updates, facilitated live training, and volunteered as a subject matter expert when needed throughout the year.

The Tenured Faculty Award applauds the faculty member with the longest tenure who has not yet been recognized. This year’s recipient, William Teter, has been an active SWANA faculty member for 19 years.

The Most Certifications Held Faculty Award recognizes the faculty member who has completed and maintained the most certifications. This year’s winner, Joe Williams, is certified in five of the nine disciplines offered by SWANA. Joe currently holds certifications in Collection Systems, Integrated Solid Waste Management, Recycling Systems, Transfer Station Systems, and MSW Management Systems.

This year’s honorees are will be recognized at SWANA’s annual conference, WASTECON®, in Dallas, Texas on Tuesday, August 26, 2014, during the SWANA Awards Breakfast and Annual Business Meeting.
