Backing Best Management Practices Toolkit Available in Spanish
SWANA Young Professionals take the lead in production

Silver Spring, MD – Spanish speaking workers in the waste industry will have access to the Solid Waste Association of North America’s (SWANA) complete Backing Best Management Practices Toolkit, now available in Spanish.

SWANA’s Backing Best Management Practices toolkit was included as part of a collection of resources for Safety Stand Down on Backing Week. The toolkit provides useful tips that local governments and waste haulers should use to stay safe on the job.

Young Professionals (YPs) from SWANA’s Caribbean-Puerto Rico chapter took the lead in translating the flyer and poster into Spanish. With these educational tools being available in Spanish, it allows SWANA to reach a larger audience in the public and private sector waste industry.

SWANA Caribbean-Puerto Rico Chapter Representative and Young Professional Steering Committee Member Hanna Rodriguez–Morales, P.E., S.C., said, “The opportunity to have these materials in Spanish, allows our chapters and members to share this valuable safety information with important sectors.”

She added, “SWANA Puerto Rico is lucky to have motivated YPs, like Olmar Lopez Vidal and Nedilys Diaz, who are able to provide assistance in making this happen.”

SWANA is committed to reducing accidents and injuries in the waste industry, and will continue to develop safety resources and programs highlighting safety best practices, providing the latest in safety news and celebrating industry victories that lead to safety legislation.

“SWANA is very pleased to provide this additional safety resource to Spanish speaking workers in the waste industry,” said SWANA Executive Director and CEO David Biderman. “We will continue to expand our safety program to get waste collection employees off the list of 10 most dangerous jobs in the United States.”

He added (in Spanish), “La seguridad es muy importante nuestros trabajadores.”
