Participants in this eSession will learn about the impact of source separated food waste collections are having on the composition of the disposed waste stream and how this may influence disposal alternatives in the future.??During this webinar, the presenter will initially describe waste composition findings on the national level and investigate the impact of food waste collection programs may have on the type of waste on the overall composition of waste that is disposed. The presenter will then present an overview of source separated food waste collection programs across the country, noting national and regional trends.
Several case studies will be presented which will highlight localities that have implemented such programs. The benefits and costs of these programs will be explored and a checklist will be presented to assist managers in making comparable assessments and developing benchmarks.
One of the case studies will be San Francisco, which has achieved a great deal of attention due to the high diversion rate it has achieved and the mandatory nature of its source separated organic collection program. Finally, the presenter will discuss implications for alternative waste disposal technologies, should source separated organics collection be adopted by localities across the United States.
