Laser scanning technology revolves around a point cloud - a collection of millions of points with the same X, Y, Z values that would be collected and recorded by conventional surveying equipment. However, unlike the "one-at-a-time" collection method of traditional surveying, laser scanners collect millions of points from each setup, taking less than 10 minutes at each location. All of this creates a true-scale 3D representation of what was scanned in a fraction of the time.
