The SWANA Young Professionals (YP) group continues to grow and expand across the country. SWANA YP members have been busy this past year speaking at SWANA events, leading teams, mentoring students and making strides in every aspect of the industry. Let’s get to know some of these upcoming industry leaders!

Meet Ketan Shah, Ph.D., Staff Professional – SCS Engineers

Ketan is an environmental steward who has developed his own tool called the Solid Waste Life Cycle Assessment. He is a result-driven environmental professional with more than seven years of experience managing complex environmental engineering projects. Some of his projects included wastewater treatment, sewer water sampling, air dispersion modeling, air pollution control methods, Solid Waste Management tender process for Municipalities, landfill facility design for scientific disposal of waste, CQA, waste to energy policy for the state, Life Cycle Analysis Models, NEPA, and Phase I Environmental Site Assessment. He has supervised 10,000 tons per day of solid waste collection, transportation, processing, and disposal, and led a 54 member team for projects worth $80 million.

Ketan started his journey with SWANA as a student from the University of Texas at Arlington. He is also responsible for leading a team of eight engineers to 2nd place in SWANA's International Student Design Competition earlier this year.

When asked about his time as a young professional in SWANA he shares, "SWANA professionals are technically sound and very helpful. They always are ready on the front to help others and achieve a sustainable waste-free future. I strongly recommend young professionals to join and contribute to SWANA."
