SWANA offers training courses in a variety of forms, from traditional in-person instruction to online learning.

  • Training@Work – Brings nationally recognized certified faculty instructors directly to your location of choice to teach the course – a cost-effective option that allows for greater flexibility and less downtime.
  • Chapter Trainings – Premier trainings at Chapter Events.
  • Training at RCon™ – Complete a training course at RCon and take part in all that SWANA’s premier event experience has to offer.
  • Virtual Courses:
  • On-Demand – Self-paced, digital education course with videos, training manual (print or digital), and supplemental materials that can be accessed anytime and anywhere.
  • Self-Study Courses – Self-paced with a digital manual, practice exam and certificate of completion (not equivalent to SWANA Certification).

Manager of Landfill of Operations

A comprehensive course built by industry experts with deep knowledge of the requirements of this critical industry role available as an in-person or online course.

Planning and Management

In-person and/or self-study courses include: Manager of Landfill Operations, Managing Integrated Solid Waste Management Systems, Zero Waste Principles & Practices, as well as an extensive collection of webinars.

Sustainable Materials Management

In-person and/or self-study courses include: Household Hazardous Waste & VSQG Collection OperationsManaging Composting Programs, Managing Recycling Systems, Zero Waste Principles & Practices, as well as a selection of recorded webinars.

Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS)

An in-person course that equips landfill personnel with the management options and opportunities available to them to address the PFAS issue. 

Safety Training

Comprehensive safety training for solid waste industry workers and operators in partnership with Blue Ridge Services.
