The Waste Conversion and Energy Recovery Technical Division (WCER) provides a forum for waste management professionals committed to the reduction and conversion of waste into valuable products, fuel, and energy, as well as the recovery of materials for re-use and recycling. The WCER focuses on increasing the profile of waste conversion within integrated waste management systems. Waste conversion technologies support increased recycling rates, generate clean energy and/or products, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and lower greenhouse gas emissions through the diversion of waste from landfills. The WCER promotes the exchange of experience, information, and innovation for waste-to-energy facilities alongside research, development, and adoption of demonstrated and developmental waste conversion technologies.
You must be a member of both SWANA and the Technical Division to join a committee.
The Awards Committee seeks to identify and showcase projects, teams (facility owners, operators, and consultants), and industry trailblazers that have demonstrated excellence and professionalism in the execution of projects which support the advancement of their solid waste management goals.
The Conversion Technologies Committee is focused on the advancement of waste conversion technologies (processes that repurpose, recycle or convert waste material into higher value added products beyond disposal). The committee will act as a technology-inclusive working group that offers a forum for experts to come together to discuss commercialization of new technologies, innovations on traditional technologies, optimal applications of each, as well as the synergies between complementary technologies.
Tracks current and pending legislation at the federal and state levels, providing comments and writing letters to elected officials in support of SWANA’s stance on key issues.
Provides waste-to-energy training and education through courses and publications, assuring program quality.
