Call for Proposals

SWANA Invites You to Submit a Proposal for RCon™

Don’t wait, submit your proposal today! Submissions will be accepted until May 22, 2025.
Join the forefront of waste and resource management as a presenter at RCon, the premier conference hosted by SWANA, where we’re shaping the future of waste as a resource. RCon redefines the waste and resource management landscape with innovative discussions, resources, and relevant topics.

There are two types of proposal submittals:

  1. Session – Panel discussion, case study, walk-and-talk, or other type of information sharing. Sessions are 30 or 60 minutes.
  2. Poster – Printed or digital (TBD) visual presentation of research or work on display during the conference and set times for attendees to view and ask questions.

We encourage submissions focused on the many areas of waste and resource management and aimed to provide insightful, innovative solutions and practices from those across the industry.
This includes areas such as:

  • Safety
  • Workforce
  • Innovation
  • Landfill and Landfill Gas Management
  • PFAS Management
  • Collections and Transfer
  • Sustainable Materials Management
  • Planning and Management
  • Communications, Education, and Marketing
  • Waste to Energy
  • Waste Conversion
  • State and Federal Legislation
  • Battery Management and Fire Prevention

Submission Guidelines

To complete your submission, please prepare the following:

  1. A compelling title that captures the essence of your session or poster*.
  2. A description of the session or poster (between 150 and 350 words)*. If using generative AI to develop your presentation or proposal, you must state so in the description section.
  3. Three (3) learning objectives of your session or poster to be included in the event mobile app.*
  4. Interactivity – Including how you will engage attendees during your session and promote dialogue.
  5. Names, titles, organizations, and biographies for the primary presenter and co-presenters.
  6. Keywords that align with your submission.

*SWANA reserves the right to make edits to your title and description if your proposal is selected.

What we are looking for:

  • Presenter Makeup – Bring a variety of voices to the session. Attendees want to hear from municipal employees (public sector) and service providers (private sector) and current clients.
  • Practical Information – Diving into the steps, strategies, and insights offers the most value to RCon attendees and encourages impactful conversations.
  • Proof of Concepts – Sharing data, metrics, and case studies ground information in real-world examples and tangible takeaways encourage your audience to apply the learnings in their own work.
  • Relevant and Timely – We aim to highlight the latest innovations, trends, projects, and technologies..
  • Diverse Views – We encourage you to bring a variety of perspectives and voices to your session or poster.
  • Insights, not Promotions – We encourage peer-to-peer learning, and your presentations and posters should share your perspectives and insights, not promote products or services.

Review Process

The submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by a group of industry professionals with a wide range of subject matter expertise. Evaluation results will be shared with the RCon Proposal Review Taskforce - composed of individuals from each of SWANA's Technical Divisions and other industry representatives - to help shape the final agenda.
