Recertify

Certification demonstrates a professional's commitment to lifelong learning and development.

The certification period is good for three (3) years. During those three years, you are responsible for accumulating 30 Professional Development Hours (PDHs), formerly known as CEUs, to be eligible for recertification.

Step 2: Renew Certification

Submit a certification renewal application with the $250 renewal fee* per certification discipline PRIOR to the expiration of your three-year certification term.

*Please note that the certification renewal fee does NOT include your membership fee; membership fees are collected separately and annually.

Certification Expired?

If your certification has expired, you will need to retake the certification exam and pass it with 70 percent or more to recertify. Please visit our Online Testing Page for more information on how to take the exam.

How Can I Earn PDHs?

  1. Attend a Webinar – Many webinars are free to members, and they often award PDHs. Notice will be given on the webinar registration page.
  2. Online Courses – SWANA offers a variety of online courses as a way to receive top industry training without ever leaving the office.
  3. In-Person Learning Events – SWANA offers in-person learning throughout the year, through RCon™, chapter events, Training@Work Program, and regional forums.
  4. Conference Keynotes – Learn from technical sessions presented by leaders in the solid waste industry

The number of PDHs awarded will vary depending on the training option. Check your certification status here.
