  • Erin Gilchrist

    Owner | Fleet Unfiltered Consulting 

    Erin Gilchrist is the founder of Fleet Unfiltered Consulting and a nationally recognized voice in fleet leadership, safety, and sustainability. With over two decades of experience, including Director of Fleet Operations at Safelite AutoGlass and VP of Fleet Evangelism at IntelliShift, she brings a practical, people-first, and culture driven lens to every conversation. Erin’s the former host of The Straight Talk on Fleet podcast, which provides insights on fleet management safety and operations. She’s passionate about empowering fleet leaders to grow their influence and thrive in their careers.

  • Suki Janssen

    Solid Waste Director | Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste Department

    Suki Janssen is the Director of the Athens-Clarke County (ACC) Solid Waste Department and has been with ACC for over twenty years. Her biggest accomplishment to-date was bringing a Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHaRM) to Georgia. Prior to joining ACCGov, she was a Program Coordinator for the Keep Georgia Beautiful program within the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, Office of Environmental Management. She was past Georgia Recycling Coalition President; current Northeast Georgia Regional Solid Waste Management Authority board member and Solid Waste Association of North America Georgia (SWANA) Chapter current International Advisory Council Member, Road-E-O Chairperson and Safety Committee Member. 

    Suki is a SWANA certified Landfill Operator and Class Instructor since 2005 and SWANA Recycling Systems Manager certified since 2007 and Composting Programs Manager certified since 2013. She completed the Institute for Georgia Environmental Leaders (IGEL) program as is part of the Class of 20-21. She is a Georgia Master Gardener, Master Composter and Master Naturalist. She published a children’s book about nature’s best recycler, the vulture. The book is titled There Goes the Neighborhood and came out in February 2020. She is married to Chris Janssen, a retired middle school math teacher, in Oconee County and lives with two dogs and two snakes.

  • James Moore

    Director | Merced County Regional Waste Management Authority

    Mr. Moore has served as the Director of the Merced County Regional Waste Management Authority since January 2023. In this position he oversees 45 employees at two active MSW landfills disposing approximately 650,000 tons per year. Mr. Moore has over 41 years’ experience in engineering and construction, with the past 29 years focused on landfill operations and environmental monitoring. This work has included supervising and training employees involved in landfill operations and the construction and operation of landfill environmental monitoring systems such as landfill gas monitoring, collection, and control systems, groundwater monitoring networks, and landfill liquids management systems, in both the private and public sectors. In previous positions, Mr. Moore served as an authorized OSHA instructor for Construction and General Industry from 2009 through 2021. He was certified as a Safety Management Specialist (SMS) through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) from 2017 to 2022.   

    Mr. Moore has been certified as a Manager of Landfill Operations by SWANA since 2002 and has served as a faculty member for SWANA’s MOLO course since 2009. He was the chair of SWANA's Landfill Management Technical Division's (LMTD) Safety Committee from 2008 to 2014 and then served as the chair of the LMTD Training Committee from 2014 to 2018. He currently serves as the chair of the LMTD Landfill Operations Committee.  Mr. Moore served as the Region 1 Director on SWANA's Board of Directors from July 2018 through June 2025. He previously served as the President of the Northern California Gold Rush Chapter from 2016 to 2018 and is currently serving as the President of the Central California Sierra Chapter. Prior to entering the landfill engineering field, Mr. Moore served in a variety of civil and industrial engineering and training development positions while on active duty in the United States Air Force.

  • Jeff Bezzo

    Executive Director - Plastics and Packaging Sustainability | SC Johnson

    Jeff Bezzo heads plastic and packaging sustainability at SC Johnson and is Board Treasurer of Circular Action Alliance. Jeff is known for coaching and developing talent, strategic thinking and partnering cross-functionally in pursuit of business priorities. Jeff has a long track record of leadership roles at SC Johnson.

    Educated at McMaster University in Canada with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, Jeff subsequently earned a CPA, CMA also in Canada. Jeff is a dual citizen having split his 31- year FMCG career between the United States and Canada with the last 27 years of his career at SC Johnson. Jeff is a daily runner and cyclist, has completed 3 ultra-distance running races to date and is an avid lover of the outdoors. Jeff spends his free time outside his home adjacent to the Kettle Moraine State Forest and Ice Age National Scenic Trail in Wisconsin. Social media profile: Link here.

  • Shane Buckingham

    Chief of Staff | Circular Action Alliance

    Shane Buckingham has over 15 years of experience in circular economy policy and extended producer responsibility and serves as Chief of Staff for Circular Action Alliance (CAA), a U.S., nonprofit Producer Responsibility Organization established to support the implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility laws for paper and packaging. At CAA, Shane is responsible for managing national operations, overseeing state implementation of EPR laws, and supporting collaboration across the executive leadership team and organization.

    Prior to becoming Chief of Staff, Shane served as the EPR Program Planning Lead for CAA. In addition, from 2021 to 2023, he played a leading role in building Circular Materials, a national, not-for-profit organization responsible for blue box recycling systems in Canada. He also founded Apex Policy, where he worked with brand owners, retailers, plastics makers, recycling organizations and trade associations on circular economy policy. Previously, he held roles in government and as the Senior Director of Sustainability at the Canadian Beverage Association and Director of Communications at the Ontario Waste Management Association.

  • Erin Rowland

    Materials Management Bureau Manager | City of Long Beach, CA

    Erin Rowland holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies and Geography from the University of Oregon (go Ducks!) and a Master’s in Public Administration from Portland State University. She began her career in 2005 as an AmeriCorps volunteer at a small nonprofit in Washington, where she discovered her deep commitment to community service and environmental stewardship. Since then, Erin has built a career rooted in public service, with a focus on solid waste management and sustainability. She started working for a rural County in Vancouver, Washington, transitioned to working for a Regional Government in Portland, Oregon, and since 2017, has served in a leadership role for one of California’s largest cities—Long Beach. In her current role as a manager in the City of Long Beach’s Energy and Environmental Services Department, Erin oversees two divisions within the Materials Management Bureau: one focused on public outreach and information, and the other on compliance with state law. She leads a diverse team and is piloting innovative approaches to community engagement, using creative outreach strategies to connect with residents and promote sustainable practices.

    Erin is passionate about the power of local government to drive meaningful change. She believes that public service is a calling—one that enables her to connect with diverse communities, tackle complex challenges, and leave a lasting impact on the environment and the quality of life. Outside of work, Erin enjoys spending time with her family—including a very energetic toddler—and exploring the outdoors with friends.

  • Charlie Schwarze

    Senior Director, Packaging Stewardship | Keurig Dr Pepper
    As the Senior Director of Packaging Stewardship at Keurig Dr Pepper (KDP), Charlie leads the company’s efforts on packaging compliance and material strategy against a backdrop of rapidly emerging packaging regulations.  Charlie also sits as Chair of the Board for the Circular Action Alliance; the producer responsibility focused on implementing extended producer responsibility for packaging regulations in the United States.  Prior to joining KDP, Charlie held various roles of increasing responsibility across the circular economy supply chain for packaging following a career as a pilot in the U.S. Navy.
  • Heidi Sanborn

    Executive Director | National Stewardship Action Council (NSAC) 

    Often called the godmother of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in the U.S., Heidi Sanborn has led the solid waste and recycling industry for more than 30 years, working with government, industry, and the public to reduce waste, improve product design, and advance circular economy policies that protect public health and support fair, free markets. 

    A former Policy Advisor at CalRecycle’s predecessor agency, Heidi co-founded the California Product Stewardship Council in 2007 and later founded the National Stewardship Action Council (NSAC) and Stewardship Action Foundation (SAF) to expand circular economy solutions nationwide. Under her leadership, NSAC has shaped legislation, sponsored and helped pass landmark laws, and established the first U.S. eco-modulated fee, setting national precedents for producer responsibility. A sought-after speaker and educator, Heidi has earned top honors from NAHMMA, Waste360, and the National Recycling Coalition, with features in Time, The Wall Street Journal, and NPR.

  • Chris Hawn

    CEO | Machinex

    Chris Hawn, a seasoned leader in the waste and recycling industry, currently serves as the CEO of Machinex Technologies. Since assuming this role in September 2017, Chris has been instrumental in driving the company's growth and innovation. His journey with Machinex began in 2010 as the North American Sales Manager, where he significantly expanded the company's market presence. In 2016, he was promoted to Executive Vice-President Sales & Business Development, showcasing his strategic acumen. 

    Before joining Machinex, Chris excelled at Vecoplan, LLC, serving as the Director of Business Development from April 1999 to January 2010. Prior to that, he was the Tex America Recycling Equipment Sales Manager from June 1994 to April 1999, specializing in equipment for post-consumer plastics transformation. Chris's industry contributions were recognized with the NWRA Suppliers Distinguished Service Award in 2021. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Appalachian State University (1992).

    Tom Koutroulis is a seasoned executive with over 30 years of experience in the waste and recycling industries. As the Director of OC Waste & Recycling (OCWR), he oversees landfill management, resource recovery initiatives, and compliance with environmental regulations for Orange County, California. Under his leadership, OCWR has transformed into a forward-thinking agency focused on sustainability, resource recovery, and community collaboration. Tom has a proven track record of leading large teams, executing complex projects, and driving innovation in both the private and public sector for the waste and recycling industry. 

    From starting his career in operations on a truck picking up waste to leading one of the largest public waste management systems in the country, Tom Koutroulis has proven that small changes can lead to significant transformations.   • Michelle Lee

    Partner and Executive Managing Director | IDEO

    As a Partner and Executive Managing Director, Michelle leads IDEO's Play Lab, an interdisciplinary team of designers and researchers who build upon 30+ years of toy invention to bring engaging, interactive, and playful experiences to market. She believes that play is essential across all ages. 

    Immersed in a globally recognized human-centered design firm, the Play Lab leverages play as a mindset and approach that enables organizations to engage diverse stakeholders, imagine new possibilities, and spark action to transform behaviors, environments and systems.   • Dan Youngs

    Executive Director | LCSWMA

    Daniel (Dan) Youngs serves as the Executive Director of the Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority (LCSWMA) and President of Sustainable Assurance Company, a Vermont-domiciled insurance company.  Dan previously served as the Chief Financial Officer at LCSWMA. Prior to joining LCSWMA, Dan served in various financial and operational leadership roles within the mechanical, manufacturing, and agriculture industries.  Specifically, Dan has focused on equity growth, liquidity enhancement and value creation, often through the development and execution of turnaround and restructuring strategies.  Business management and operational experiences include start-up ventures, service and product development, fleet and logistics, procurement, comprehensive contract negotiations and risk management. 

    Dan holds a B.S. in Accounting with a second major in Business Administration from Lebanon Valley College. Further, Dan holds an MBA from Lebanon Valley College and a professional certificate in Landfill Design from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Dan is active within his community, serving on various Boards and Committees of regional organizations including the Keystone SWANA chapter in Pennsylvania.

  • Tracy Wholf

    Senior Coordinating Producer | CBS News

    Tracy J. Wholf is a senior producer and reporter, most recently with CBS News. She began covering environmental news when she pivoted to journalism in 2010, working at Dan Rather Reports. She continued in the beat and earned a Headliner Award for environmental coverage at PBS NewsHour Weekend. Wholf joined the second season of "Years of Living Dangerously," a docu-series on NatGeo, in 2016, where she investigated climate change issues in China and the Middle East. As an investigative producer at ESPN, she won a Gracie and Emmy award for her work, which often focused on sexual abuse and exploitation in sports. In 2021, she helped launch the climate unit at ABC News, earning a duPont-Columbia award for environmental reporting. Wholf joined CBS News in 2023 to establish the network's first climate unit.

About the Speakers

  • Jennifer Lawson

    President and CEO | Keep America Beautiful

    Jennifer Lawson is President and CEO of Keep America Beautiful, a national nonprofit that works to inspire and educate people to improve and beautify their community environment. Previously, Jenny served as Chief Civic Innovation Officer at Points of Light where she led programs to help companies achieve their social change goals through the actions of their employees. She was also the executive sponsor of Listen. Learn. Act to End Racism, Points of Light’s partnership with Morehouse College, and served as an advisor to the National Trust for Civic Infrastructure. Jenny came to Points of Light from the Pew Center on Global Climate Change (now C2ES), where she led Make an Impact, a global campaign focused on energy efficiency and environmental awareness with some of the nation’s largest companies. Her career began with community development and affordable housing advocacy in Northern Virginia, where she served as the founding Executive Director of the Alliance for Housing Solutions.   • Jeff Snyder

    Senior Vice President of Recycling & Sustainability | Rumpke Waste & Recycling  

    Jeff started his career with Smurfit WestRock in 1991 where he held several positions on the mill and converting side of the business. Jeff joined Smurfit WestRock’s recycling division in 2008 where he ran several recycling plants in Indianapolis, In., Chattanooga, Tn., Huntsville, Al., and Columbus, Oh. Jeff oversaw the building of several Single stream MRF’s while with the company.  

    In 2014 Jeff joined Pratt Industries as the Midwest Mill Buyer & Operations Manager. He oversaw the sourcing of 50,000 tons a month of fiber for both Valparaiso, In & Wapakoneta, Oh. Paper mills. He also managed 3 recycling plants and all mill fiber operations. In 2020 Jeff joined Rumpke as Senior Vice President of Recycling & Sustainability where he oversees the Recycling line of business and 14 recycling plants.  Jeff graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a degree in Business Management. Jeff lives in Cincinnati with his wife Jackie.

  • Amy Lestition Burke, FASAE, CAE

    CEO | Solid Waste Association of North America 

    Amy Lestition Burke, FASAE, CAE is the CEO of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), an organization of more than 10,000 public and private sector professionals committed to advancing from solid waste management to resource management. She is a seasoned association executive with a proven track record of building associations that bring together the interests of members, grow member value, enhance partnership collaboration, and increase revenue development. 

    Amy previously served as the VP of industry solutions of the Consumer Brands Association, overseeing partnerships and collaborations with companies that support the consumer-packaged goods industry, which included the key areas of supply chain and sustainability. Prior to Consumer Brands, Amy served as the Executive Director of the Special Libraries Association, an international organization with 50 chapters around the world, representing information professionals in business, government, academia, and other “specialized” settings. 

    Amy has received the 2024 Women Who Advance Associations Award and was recognized as DCA Live's 2023 Association Technology and Innovation Stars. Amy lives in Centreville, VA with her family and enjoys traveling to show her children the world.
