SWANA is partnering with the Greater Columbus Convention Center, our Columbus hotels partners, and all our RCon™ event suppliers to design an event focused on sustainable practices and resource management. Here are a few of the efforts you will see in practice during RCon 2025:
The Greater Columbus Convention Center (GCCC) has an impressive sustainability program and is very committed to operating sustainable meetings and events. The center’s North Building is LEED® Silver certified under the Existing Buildings (Operations + Management) program.
This indoor, vertical Smartfarm is located in the Greater Columbus Convention Center and is the first of its kind in a convention center. It produces nearly 5,000 pounds of vegetables and herbs annually for culinary use.
The GCCC caterer promotes environmental sustainability by using organic and locally grown products, in-season produce as well as local meat and seafood when it is available.
GCCC uses energy LED lights, including in the Exhibit Halls. It offsets 100% of its energy usage with renewable energy by purchasing Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) equivalent to the total amount of electricity used.
Recycling and composting takes place throughout the facility, and the GCCC has a sustainable purchasing policy.
