Mr. Gary L. Conover, S.C.

Gary Conover is the Solid Waste Director of the Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA), a position he has held since January 2007. He has more than 16 years of experience in the Solid Waste Industry. He was first hired by the Authority in 1991 and has worked a range of positions including his initial hire as a Laborer to his current position of Solid Waste Director.

The ACUA operates a 40 million gallon-a-day Wastewater Treatment Facility in Atlantic City, NJ, and a regional sewerage collection system serving 14 municipalities in Atlantic County. The ACUA also operates an extensive solid waste management system that includes a 700 ton-per-day landfill, a recycling processing center, a vegetative waste composting facility, a waste transfer station, a vehicle maintenance center and a recycling and trash collection system serving 100,000 homes and businesses in Atlantic County. The ACUA solid waste operations and administrative headquarters are located at the 350-acre Haneman Environmental Park in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.

Mr. Conover holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. He also holds a Certificate from the Rutgers Center for Management Development-Mini-MBA Business Essentials Program. He is a Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) Certified Manager of Landfill Operations since August 2003.

Mr. Conover is responsible for Permit Compliance, the Customer Outreach and Relations Program as well as oversight of the Solid Waste Division’s activities and budget. The Solid Waste Division includes all aspects of Solid Waste and Landfill Management, Compost Operations, Transfer Station and Maintenance. He was a key player in the negotiation with the Authority’s private sector partner in the ACUA’s landfill gas to electric program.
Mr. Conover is the current President of the Solid Waste Association of North America-New Jersey Chapter. He serves in an advisory position to the Atlantic County Solid Waste Advisory Council. Mr. Conover is also a proud member of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s “Reducing Air Pollution Together” Air Quality Initiative.

Mr. Conover lives in Galloway Township, NJ with his wife, Tawny.
