January 15, 2021

The SWANA Young Professionals (YP) group continues to grow and expand across the country. Let’s get to know some of these upcoming industry leaders!

Meet Emily Stoler, Environmental Compliance Manager - Southeast Berrien County Landfill Authority

Emily Stoler

Meet Emily Stoler with the Southeast Berrien County Landfill Authority in Niles, Michigan! Emily holds a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and biomedical sciences from Grand Valley State University and a Master of Science in analytical chemistry from the University of Notre Dame. She is also a certified storm-water and wastewater operator in the State of Michigan.

Emily volunteers with the SWANA YP Group as the Region 9 YP Representative. She has worked to increase engagement between the Chapters in her region including Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Wisconsin by facilitating quarterly meetings between chapter liaisons and Happy Hour events. She also presents on the benefits of being a YP at the Michigan Great Lakes Membership Meetings to bring in new YP members for her chapter. As the President of the Michigan Chapter, Paul Sgriccia says, “Emily has been very active and supportive of the new Michigan Great Lakes Chapter. She stepped up quickly to volunteer as the Region 9 YP Liaison and helped me (a lot) to coordinate the recent Chapter annual (virtual) meeting. Emily is doing a great job assisting with the new Chapter and I appreciate all the work that she has been doing.”

When asked about her experience as a YP Member, Emily shares, “I have had the opportunity to be involved in National, Regional, and Local meetings in SWANA as a YP representative. Being involved in the YP group has given me opportunities to connect with my peers in the solid waste and recycling industry as well as connecting me with mentors. The SWANA YP group is a great way to network!”
