YP Spotlight: Sean McGinnis

The SWANA Young Professionals (YP) group continues to grow and expand across the country. SWANA YP members have been busy this past year speaking at SWANA events, leading teams, mentoring students and making strides in every aspect of the industry. Let’s get to know some of these upcoming industry leaders!

Meet Sean McGinnis – Partner – COEFFICIENT

Sean is a Partner with COEFFICIENT, a Washington D.C. based strategic advisory firm specialized in energy, climate, and environmental policy and markets. In 2022, he received Waste360’s 40 Under 40 Award as an inspiring and innovative professional who has made a significant contribution to the waste and recycling industry.

Sean has led a new national-level collaborative effort across the solid waste sector and water sector among our nation's prominent trade associations, creating the first National PFAS "Receivers" group collaboration. The ability for Sean to identify the importance and alignment among these two critical infrastructure sectors in order to tackle the ever-changing and challenging topic of PFAS has been impressive and nationally significant. The informal coalition of solid waste sector and water sector organizations include participants such as SWANA, NWRA, EREF, WEF, NACWA, NRWA, to name a few. Over the years, Sean has also contributed through research and education leading the development of reports published on critical infrastructure including the role of public-private partnerships and digital transformation to advance system financial and operating sustainability and resilience.

When asked about his time as a YP member, he stated, "It has been a rewarding experience to collaborate with SWANA's leadership, staff, and members on nationally significant environmental policy issues. SWANA's network provides an excellent platform for continued outreach and growth as a professional in the solid waste and recycling sector. "
