Dive into the details below to optimize your participation and navigate the dynamic landscape of SOAR 2024 effortlessly.

SOAR Schedule

We have added exciting opportunities to the SOAR 2024 Conference Program.

Check out some sessions taking place at the conference:

  • Show Me the Money: Requesting a Solid Waste Rate Increase - Now is the Time
Speaker: Scott Pasternak, Burns & McDonnell
Preview: One of the greatest challenges for solid waste directors is deciding on the timing and approach to request a rate increase for solid waste customers. Given the recent, significant increases in costs for the overall economy and solid waste industry in particular, now may represent the most ideal and necessary time to request an increase. We'll show you how via case studies and innovative data.
  • Recycle Everything from MSW, MLW and More, In a Virtual Landfill! Now, How the Heck does that Work?
Speakers: Rachel Oster and Heidi Sanborn
Preview: To advance circular economy and climate goals, a partnership between nonprofits and government was created to develop the Recycle Right for Climate Campaign. This session will talk about the partnership consisting of Women in Solid Waste & Recycling (WISR), the Stewardship Action Foundation (SAF) and the California State Treasurer, how the partnership developed and what this partnership is doing to advance climate change and circular economy goals through the Recycle Right for Climate Campaign, including its evolution to promote broader promotion of recycling and innovation for advancing circular economy goals in California and nationwide.
  • Visualizing Pre-Regulatory Closed Landfills: Albuquerque's Experience
Speaker: Ken Ziegler, City of Albuquerque, Environmental Health Department
Preview: In the arid high desert of the Southwest minimally regulated closed municipal solid waste landfills continue to pose threats to human health, environment, and groundwater even after more than 50 years of closure. The City of Albuquerque Environmental Health Department has been overseeing and managing closed landfills for over 25 years. Many aspects of these landfills are a mystery that have been lost to the past. Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, GIS visualization, modeling, and other innovative technologies, they strive to better understand the condition of their various closed landfills. These technologies and techniques have helped the City of Albuquerque Environmental Health Department protect the public and the environment and prepare one closed landfill for annual use as a key part of The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.

These are just three of the many sessions we have in store for you. On the SOAR Schedule webpage, you can even filter the sessions by date, speakers, title, track, and professional development hours (PDH) opportunities.
