2024 International Road-E-O

The 2024 International Road-E-O was held the weekend of October 5 in Dublin, Georgia. Hosted by the Georgia Chapter, it is a competition of solid waste collection and landfill equipment operators, showcasing their skills on roll-offs, automated side loaders, rear loaders, tractor-trailers, and landfill equipment. It attracted top talent from 12 of SWANA’s 47 chapters across the US.
Over 250 participants, guests, volunteers, and sponsors attended.
The Road-E-O is an opportunity for the community, employers, and the industry to recognize and acknowledge their best field personnel. Event goals include promoting professionalism on the part of drivers, equipment operators, and mechanics in solid waste management. Ultimately, the Road-E-O fostered a spirit of competition and goodwill among SWANA chapters and industry leaders.
The damage caused by Hurricane Helene did not prevent the contestants from showing up to compete on a breezy day followed by the awards dinner at the local technical college. Sadly, the hurricane killed a Dublin resident, and the chapter generously held a raffle and collected over $600 for the family.
Suki Janssen, Department Director for Athens-Clarke County, shares, “It was so great hosting such awesome folks from around the country! You all are truly awesome! We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the generosity shown in collecting for the 50/50 raffle. You all donated over $1,300 to the family of a Dublin, Georgia resident that lost their life during the hurricane. Thanks for the love!”
Congratulations to all the winners, the participants and to the Georgia Chapter for hosting this wonderful event. Plan to join us next year for the 2025 International Road-E-O, which will be hosted by the Florida Sunshine Chapter.
