Silver Spring, MD – After conducting a nationwide search, the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), found its next leader only a few miles away. Today, SWANA’s board of directors confirmed the selection of David Biderman as its next executive director and chief executive officer. His official start date is May 1.

“SWANA is pleased and excited to announce the hiring of David Biderman to lead the Association,” said President Brian Tippetts. “David’s energy, experience, and his long-standing emphasis on safety fit perfectly with the board’s expectations for SWANA and its efforts in coming years.”

Mr. Biderman has worked at the National Waste and Recycling Association and its predecessors for 18 years, most recently as Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel. Before coming to in the waste industry, he worked as an environmental and transportation attorney at Steptoe & Johnson, a Washington DC based law firm.

"I am very excited about the opportunity to be SWANA's next Executive Director. SWANA is the largest solid waste association in the world, has terrific programs, and I am honored to have been selected,” Biderman said.   “I look forward to working with SWANA members and staff in the months and years ahead."

Biderman holds a degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and earned a B.A. in Political Science from The Johns Hopkins University.
