2022 SWANA Young Professional of the Year

The SWANA Young Professionals Steering Committee is recognizing the following members for the inaugural YP of the Year Award:

• Sonia Samir, Parkhill, Friso, TX as the West Region’s Solid Waste YP of the Year
• Emily Tucker, HDR, Charlotte, NC as the East Region’s Solid Waste YP of the Year
• Haley Kunert, HF&H Consultants, Irvine, CA as the Discretionary Solid Waste YP of the Year

These members are recognized for their outstanding dedication to the solid waste industry and for building YP visibility and encouraging YP participation. Their leadership exemplifies the four categories used to judge the nominations, which are Advocacy, Innovation, Improvement, and Impact. We thank them for their commitment to SWANA and the service they provide to their communities.

In addition to receiving the YP award and recognition at WASTECON, these winners will also receive:

• One-year SWANA membership voucher
• WASTECON or SOAR attendance voucher — Award winner’s choice
• Invitation to speak / present at the Annual YP Meeting or YP Session at WASTECON
• Request to be a mentor within the SWANA YP Leadership Academy

Winners of YP of the Year Award will be recognized during the awards ceremony taking place at WASTECON in San Diego on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at 11:45 a.m.

SWANA wishes to thank the review committee for their hard work and commitment in reviewing the numerous applications received. The 2022 YP of the Year Review Committee included Cassidy Brauns, Ashley Evans, Wes Glakas, Brenda Haney, Jeff Martirano, Art Mercer, Elizabeth Roe, Karam Singh, and Hailey Tatum.
