SWANA Supports Senate’s Recent Recycling Legislation

SWANA Supports Senate’s Recent Recycling Legislation - March 2024

March 15, 2024 – SWANA supports the US Senate’s passage of the Recycling Infrastructure and Accessibility Act of 2023 (S.1189) and the Recycling and Composting Accountability Act (S.1194) and urges the House of Representatives to pass companion bills.

The Recycling and Composting Accountability Act would improve data collection on US recycling systems and explore the potential of a national composting strategy. It would require the Environmental Protection Agency to collect and publish data on recycling and composting rates across the country.

The Recycling Infrastructure and Accessibility Act would establish a pilot recycling program at the Environmental Protection Agency. This program would award grants for improving recycling accessibility to states, local governments, Indian tribes, or public-private partnerships.

SWANA advocates for improved recycling and composting infrastructure and collections, and supports this legislation.
