SWANA just wouldn't be SWANA without its members. That's why we are asking members to report their and their colleague's career changes, such as new jobs, promotions, and retirements. These "Transitions" will be memorialized in I Am SWANA News articles and shared with the member community. Let's check out some members who are on the move!
Kasem Cornelius has a new position with Forbedre Consulting as Principal Consultant. Formerly with Blue Ridge Services, Kasem grew up in a family-owned recycling business and then leveraged this experience into a successful consulting career. Kasem has worked with 60+ municipal and private solid waste operations across 15 US states and Canadian provinces.
Transitioning into the role as Principal Consultant of Forbedre Consulting, he will continue working with all types of solid waste operations (i.e. Collections, Transfer Stations, MRFs, Landfills, etc.). Though the types of projects he works on vary, his specialty has proven to be applying a practical, operations-minded approach to safety that ultimately improves worker health, process efficiency, and organizational finances.
Kasem currently serves as the Safety Ambassador for SWANA's Central California Sierra Chapter and worked on the 2021 MOLO Redevelopment as a Subject Matter Expert and Exam Committee Manager.
Shannon Crawford, formerly of the Plastics Industry Association as Director, State Government Affairs, has a new position with WM as Director, Recycling & Environmental Policy.
Transitioning into this new role, Shannon works with the government affairs team to respond to recycling legislation, regulations, and policy impacting WM operations. Previously, she worked as the director of state government affairs at the Plastics Industry Association, overseeing the association’s response to extended producer responsibility and recycled content legislation. Crawford started her career at SWANA, where she advanced to the position of manager of government relations.
Jackie W. Barlow, II, has been promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer of Paradigm Software. Jackie is a long-time member of the Paradigm team, first joining the company as a Support Manager in 2000. During his tenure, Jackie has played an integral role in the company’s rapid growth and expansion, culminating in his most recent position as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, where he was responsible for business development, product demonstrations, contract negotiations, human resources, strategic partnerships, and the daily management and financial oversight of the company.
