SWANA Recertification in a Few Simple Steps!

May 25, 2023

SWANA Certification demonstrates a professional's commitment to lifelong learning and development. It can lead to career enhancement, increased salary, and greater success in your chosen discipline.

Don’t miss out on these benefits and more by allowing your certification to lapse.

To be eligible for certification renewal, you must meet two requirements:

  • Earn 30 professional development hours (PDHs) (formerly referred to as CEUs) within your three-year certification term

While it isn’t mandatory that PDHs are earned solely through SWANA, SWANA offers convenient ways to earn all the credit needed for certification renewal, including:

  • Webinars — Most webinars are free to members
  • Online Courses — Access top-notch training without ever leaving your office
  • In-Person Learning Events — In-person learning opportunities are available throughout the year through its national conferences (SOAR and WASTECON), chapter events, the Training@Work Program, and regional forums

To receive PDHs for SWANA and non-SWANA events, send an email to certification@swana.org. The email should contain the following:

  • A program agenda or course syllabus with a detailed description of the program or course content and a schedule detailing the length of all sessions /classes attended
  • Date(s) and location (city, state/province of training
  • Proof of attendance
  • Be within one (1) year of the expiration date of your certification(s)

If you are uncertain about when your certification expires, you may find this expiration date at the bottom of your certificate or by viewing the Certification tab on your SWANA profile as shown here:
