WASTECON 2005: Attendance Increases At Training And Technical Sessions

Over 1,000 solid waste professionals attended SWANA's training and technical sessions at WASTECON 2005 held in Austin, TX from September 25-28. "SWANA's technical programs are renowned for their quality and professionalism," said Andy Quigley, SWANA's International President. "WASTECON 2005 continued this tradition and provided attendees with cutting-edge information and networking opportunities to help them do their jobs and advance their careers," Quigley added. Training and technical session attendance was up 4% from the prior year record at WASTECON 2004 in Phoenix, Arizona.

A total of 3,100 people visited the trade show that had 212 exhibitors of which 40 were first-time exhibitors. "The influx of new exhibitors this year shows that SWANA is constantly reaching out to every size and type of business in the profession in an effort to showcase the best and widest variety of products and technologies at WASTECON," said John Skinner, Ph.D. Executive Director and CEO of SWANA. The Phoenix show last year had 192 exhibitors. The total attendance at the show was approximately 11 percent below the Phoenix attendance predominantly due to the response to the recent hurricanes in Texas and the Gulf Coast."SWANA members have extensive experience in managing wastes generated by natural disasters and many of them are out in the field helping in the emergency response and clean-up efforts," said Skinner.

WASTECON 2006 will be held in Charlotte , North Carolina from September 18-21.
