AI vehicle camera safety systems are becoming increasingly commonplace in municipalities and commercial fleets. Some of the more advanced platforms on the market can result in reductions in unsafe driving behavior of over 90%. However, concerns around driver pushback and union acceptance are still a barrier to adoption of the technology.

In this two-part session, hear from Motive’s Safety & Compliance Lead Jim Higby as he discusses best practices for driver adoption. Drawing on decades of experience as a safety manager at FedEx and Republic Services, Higby will provide a framework for rolling out the platform and practical tips to ensure program success. In the second half of the session, Ashley Mrutu, senior sales engineer at Motive will lead a discussion with Higby; Brenda Haney, deputy director, City of Denton, Texas; and Shaquawanna Carter, assistant director, City of Midland, Texas, about their experiences working with safety technology and how to get your drivers on your side.

Learning Objectives include:
1) The state of safety in solid waste in 2025,
2) using technology to reduce safety adverse behaviors, and
3) key reasons why drivers resist camera safety technology and strategies for addressing these concerns.

This session is technology agnostic and will be useful whether you are considering adopting a platform or whether you already have a platform in place.
