In Memory of SWANA Member Mark Wills

April 22, 2021

Mark Wills

Canadian SWANA members are feeling the loss of a well respected member who lived his life with a passion for the waste management industry and proudly supported the work of SWANA. It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Mark Wills, who passed away on December 9, 2020, in his 67th year after a hard fought battle with cancer. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Starting in 1983, Mark founded his company, Geoware, which is a developer of innovative computer software for weighing and tracking loads at waste management facilities. He was also a long time SWANA member and former Board member of the Ontario Chapter. As a Board member he helped organize (and sponsor!) the Canadian Waste Resource Symposium and was the creator and financial supporter of the Canadian Chapter Builder Awards. He felt that each Canadian chapter had people who were doing great work building their respective chapters that should be recognized for their efforts. A few years ago, he was also the very deserving recipient of the Chapter Builder Award for the Ontario Chapter! As a way of honouring Mark’s contributions to SWANA, the Canadian Chapters unanimously and wholeheartedly supported the renaming of these awards to the “Mark Wills Chapter Builder Awards”. Right up until his death, Mark was also determined to find a way to support research for pancreatic cancer. To honour his goal, a donation can be made to his memorial page for pancreatic cancer research: donate.pancreaticcancercanada.ca/goto/markwills

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends.
