SWANA is pleased to announce David Biderman has been appointed to the Department of Commerce’s Environmental Technologies Trade Advisory Committee (ETTAC) to represent the waste management and recycling segment of the U.S. environmental technology industry for the third time. Biderman was first appointed to the committee in 2016 and was reappointed in 2019.
ETTAC works with the Department of Commerce and other federal agencies to promote environmental trade. It aims to develop and expand programs of U.S. exports of environmental technology, services, goods, and products. ETTAC committee members are senior executives representing a broad cross-section of the environmental industry.
“I am honored to be reappointed to ETTAC and find it an invaluable resource of agency and private sector contacts and information,” stated Biderman. “Global interest in mitigating Climate Change, reducing marine litter, and closing dumpsites are creating opportunities for U.S. companies to sell solid waste goods and services overseas, and SWANA will continue to help them grow international markets.”
Biderman’s reappointment to ETTAC follows SWANA’s successful delivery of landfill training and capacity building to Latin American solid waste professionals in 2019-2020. SWANA provided training to nearly 100 landfill managers and government officials, primarily from Colombia, and hosted a tour of Georgia disposal and recycling facilities by a delegation from Colombia and Chile. SWANA is currently having discussions with a growing number of solid waste stakeholders in Latin American and the Caribbean concerning future projects.
SWANA is the U.S. and Canadian representative to the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) and hosted the ISWA World Congress in Fall 2017.
“We are excited to have SWANA represented again with the Department of Commerce’s Environmental Technologies Trade Advisory Committee with David’s reappointment,” said Brenda Haney, SWANA President and Solid Waste Director for the City of Lubbock, TX. “Being part of this group with agency and private sector professionals allows SWANA to assist our members to grow and develop outside of the US and to be a resource on many critical environmental issues facing all of the world.”
