RCon™ 2026: A Destination for Foodies & Sustainability Champions
When you think about RCon™, you think sessions, connections, and ideas. However, there’s another experience waiting outside the convention center: food. SWANA staff visited Rooster, a restaurant recognized by the Green Dining Alliance as reducing waste and adopting sustainable practices - a natural extension of SWANA's community values.
Reinvention Rooted in Reuse at City Museum
The City Museum reflects St. Louis’s commitment to creativity, reinvention, and sustainability. City Museum is perhaps one of the most creative examples of innovation through reuse anywhere in the US. In a former shoe factory, this downtown attraction transforms repurposed materials— salvaged steel, tiles, and structural remnants—into immersive, interactive art exhibits and an imaginative playground designed for both children and adults.

A Warm Welcome to RCon™ 2026 Attendees in St. Louis
SWANA's flagship event experience, RCon™ is headed to St. Louis, Missouri, September 29 - October 2, 2026. Explore St. Louis President & CEO Brad Dean shares this warm welcome to the waste and resource management industry professionals expected to gather in the iconic city of the Gateway Arch.
"Landfill gas—you hear about it. We talk about it. But what is it really? What is it made of? How is it generated? " said SWANA Faculty Matt Stutz, principal with Weaver Consultants Group.
As landfill gas regulations evolve and new technologies reshape the industry, understanding the fundamentals of landfill gas management has never been more crucial.
Led by Stutz, SWANA’s Landfill Gas Basic Training is a one-day course held during RCon™ 2026 on September 28 that will leave participants with a clear understanding of landfill gas formation, collection, control, regulation, and emerging trends.
"In this one-day training course, learn the basics of landfill gas, collection and management, regulations, and more. Whether you are newer to the industry, looking for a refresher, or just seeking to gain a better understanding of landfill gas, this is for you.”
Landfill gas management affects nearly every aspect of landfill operations, including environmental compliance, air quality, public health, greenhouse gas emissions, safety, and renewable energy production.
“Landfill gas-to-energy technology is evolving, and regulations are changing, so there is always more to learn about this important topic. We need to better understand the emerging technologies and the rules that govern landfill gas. How do we quantify, collect, and control it?” Stutz continued.
The course is designed to provide practical, real-world insights that attendees can immediately apply in their work.
RCon brings together thousands of waste and resource management professionals for technical education, networking, and professional development. The Landfill Gas Basics Training is one of several focused, one-day SWANA Trainings available to RCon attendees.
Join Matt Stutz and fellow professionals in St. Louis this September 29-October 2 by adding a course to your RCon registration and earn up to 10 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) toward your continuing education goals before the bulk of the sessions and tours begin.
