Award Details

Eligibility

Applicant must be an organization that collects, processes, recycles, or otherwise manages municipal solid waste, recycling, or organics; or designs waste/recycling systems and/or works around their components. The individual submitting the application must be a SWANA member.

Judging

Safety Award applications will be reviewed by members of the SWANA Safety Committee. Additional information may be requested verbally or in writing in order to evaluate the application further. The decision of winner(s) by the Committee is final.

Awards

Award recipients are recognized during an award ceremony at SWANA's annual RCon™ and are recognized on the SWANA website and social media.

Application Questions

1. What is the primary activity of the applicant organization?
2. What is the size of the organization?
3. Please describe the content of the organization’s safety training program. (Limit 750 words)
4. How frequently do frontline employees and supervisors receive safety training? Describe how safety training for individuals is tracked, including what types of platforms are used (e.g., in-person, online, computer, smartphone). (Limit 250 words)
5. How was the success of the safety training program evaluated for the previous year? Provide your organization’s illness and injury DART and TRC rates if available. If not available, please provide quantitative measures used. (Limit 500 words)
6. How are workplace hazards identified and controlled? (Limit 250 words)
7. How are frontline employees involved with the development and evaluation of the safety program? Describe how employee behavior is changed when issues are identified. (Limit 250 words)
8. What one thing sets your safety program apart from the other potential applicants and why? (Limit 100 words)
