The SWANA Young Professionals (YP) group continues to grow and expand across the country. SWANA YP members have been busy this past year speaking at SWANA events, leading teams, mentoring students and making strides in every aspect of the industry. Let’s get to know some of these upcoming industry leaders!
As a new professional with nearly 3 years in the solid waste industry, Claire has already learned so much in that time. While at R3 Consulting, she’s had the chance to embrace many opportunities. For instance, she has written and developed new, innovative policies including city-wide zero waste plans, foodware and single-use plastic ordinances, and mandatory recycling and organics ordinances all with the goal of reducing the amount of waste we send to landfills. Claire also had the chance to conduct outreach and facilitate meetings with businesses, residents, and council members to both educate community members and policy makers on state laws and the environmental impacts of our waste. In addition, her outreach involvement has allowed her to learn the needs of her community.
Claire also continues to expand her learning in the field of solid waste management as a new member of SWANA’s Young Professionals Group and enrollee for SWANA’s Managing Integrated Solid Waste Management Systems course. She states, “I am dedicated to continuing to pursue a career in the solid waste industry and am excited for what the future holds in this field.”
When asked about her experience so far as a new member of SWANA, she states, “I am always looking for ways to network with colleagues in the industry and grateful to SWANA for establishing the Young Professionals Group as a platform for young professionals to learn and grow to be the next leaders of tomorrow. I’m excited to be a member and connect with other young and experienced professionals as I continue to grow and transform the solid waste industry.”
