The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) awarded two members for their excellence in waste management and environmental conservation at WASTECON 2007.
Ross Maybee, S.C., General Manager of Valley Waste-Resource Management, received the ‘Life Member Award’ for his successful waste management initiatives in Nova Scotia. He executes an extensive inter-municipal waste management authority in Nova Scotia. In 2006, Maybee was recognized for his achievements with the ‘Mobius Environmental Award for Individual Excellence in Waste Reduction.’
Lisa A. Skumatz, PhD., received the Robert L. Lawrence Distinguished Service Award. She currently is the principal of Skumatz Economic Research Associates, Inc. in Colorado. Skumatz is a strong advocate for the program ‘Pay as You Throw’ (PAYT); she has conducted numerous economic analyses on integrated waste and recycling planning. She conducted the first quantitative analysis of single-stream recycling to create cost-effective, motivational recycling options. Skumatz is truly dedicated to environmental conservation through successful recycling programs.
