SWANA gave the Maryland Environmental Services (MES) the 2017 Sustainable Materials Management Biggest Safety Improvement award. The employees of MES’s Prince George’s County Material Recycling Facility established a robust safety program from scratch. Despite facing extraordinarily difficult circumstances upon taking over this facility, employees designed a unique safety program that strongly adheres to MES standards and has made significant impacts on safety outcomes. Moreover, this facility has maintained a stellar record as compared to national industry standards.
