WASTECON wraps up today with the final keynotes starting at 1:30 p.m. EST. Click here to view today's lineup.
Former CNN reporter and founder of MediaWorks Resource Group, Mark Bernheimer will start the day by sharing his unparalleled insight into the tactics, motivations, and “tricks of the trade” of the modern-day news media in a lively session that used volunteers to conduct realistic interview practice drills. He, then, will offer live coaching tips and guidance for improvement based on the drills.
You will also hear from two panels. "Paying for Waste Services During the Downturn" will discuss options for financing solid waste operations during the economic downturn and ways to plan for the future. Read a preview of the session here. Leaders from the US & Canada's biggest cities will talk about innovation, challenges, and opportunities in the keynote session, "Big Cities Talking Trash."

WASTECON® has already featured some fantastic keynote speakers of top industry leaders. John Morris, Waste Management's Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, kicked off the virtual event by encouraging participants to discover the opportunities that are revealed in times of crisis and disruption. He provided insight on his experience with the pandemic and how it affected Waste Management as well as looked ahead to 2021. Read more from John by checking out his article on the SWANA Blog here.
Embracing disruption served as this year’s conference theme and evolved into the theme of 2020. Participants learned through SWANA’s Lawrence Lecturer, Heidi Sanborn’s keynote that disruption is a positive. She presented a motivating talk to encourage all attendees to get active in accelerating change and tips on how they can get involved.
WASTECON®'s unique program also brought four panels to discuss important industry topics such as COVID-19 response, EPA's new 50% recycling goal, and more. Participants learned how the industry can work together to achieve EPA’s 50% recycling goals through a reduction in contamination, increased processing efficiency and strengthening domestic markets.
SWANA's executive leadership summit for the solid waste and recycling industries discussed issues that private and public sector solid waste and recycling leaders face daily. WASTECON®’s high value content was designed to advance executive leadership effectiveness and inspire teams.
SWANA is excited to continue the conversation at WASTECON® 2021 in Orlando, FL in November and encourages all solid waste and recycling professionals to participate.
