The SWANA Young Professionals (YP) group continues to grow and expand across the country. SWANA YP members have been busy this past year speaking at SWANA events, leading teams, mentoring students and making strides in every aspect of the industry. Let’s get to know some of these upcoming industry leaders!
Meet Tyler Ganus with the Southeast Berrien County Landfill Authority in Niles, Michigan! Tyler first entered into the solid waste industry in 2012 as an Operator-in-Training at the Southeast Berrien County Landfill Authority. Upon graduating from Anderson University in 2014, he made the transition into the Environmental department. In 2015, he was promoted to the Environmental Compliance Manager and shortly thereafter promoted to General Manager in 2017. Tyler now manages an 850-ton per day operation that consists of 19 employees, a roll-off division, gas-to-energy facility, and small recycling center.
Tyler has been a SWANA member since 2016. In March 2020, he was provided the opportunity to become the first Michigan Great Lakes Chapter Young Professional Liaison. Per Michigan Chapter President, Paul Sgriccia, “Tyler has been very active and supportive of the new Michigan Great Lakes Chapter. He has stepped up to Chair the YP Committee and is doing a great job recruiting new YPs.” In addition, Tyler has participated in SWANA training courses and received the Manager of Landfill Operations (MOLO) Certification. Aside from work and SWANA he is also a proud husband and father of two amazing boys and a beautiful baby girl.
When asked about his experience as a YP Member, Tyler shares, “Being a YP with SWANA has provided me with multiple resources for professional development and a platform to become involved in the industry. I highly recommend anyone in pursuit of growing professionally to become a YP member, get involved, and take advantage of the benefits SWANA provides.”
