SWANA Announces 2009 Excellence Award Winners

SWANA is pleased to announce the winners of the 2009 Excellence Awards. The Excellence Awards program was designed to recognize facilities, operations and programs that are committed to environmentally and economically sound management of solid waste, and also to encourage innovation.

Submittals for each of the 13 Excellence Award categories are evaluated based upon a distinct set of criteria established by the Awards Committees for each of SWANA’s seven technical divisions. The level of recognition (gold, silver and bronze) is determined by the applicant’s cumulative score based on these criteria.

“These Excellence Award winners represent the most innovative, professional solid waste management operations in North America”, said John H. Skinner, Ph.D., SWANA Executive Director and CEO. “The communities that they serve should be very proud of their outstanding accomplishments,” Skinner added.
