Seeking Nominations for Three Private Sector Delegate Positions on the SWANA Advisory Board

March 23,2023

SWANA is now accepting applications to run for one of three Private Sector Delegate (PSD) seats on its Advisory Board for a two-year period beginning July 1.

Current private and small business members are eligible to run for one of the three positions:

  • Solid Waste Management Law Practice (Legal)
  • Financing of Solid Waste Management Systems (Finance)
  • Materials Recovery and Diversion Services (Materials Recovery)

To be eligible to serve as a PSD, applicants must be and remain an active private or small business member of SWANA working in some aspect of the area being represented.

To apply, send a short email expressing interest and qualifications along with a professional resume and headshot to SWANA Deputy Executive Director Sara Bixby, sbixby@swana.org, no later than April 13, 2023.

The Advisory Board is a 62-member group (plus the five SWANA officers in non-voting roles) tasked with representing SWANA’s diverse membership groups and providing advice and input to the governing Board of Directors.

Seven Private Sector Delegates representing specific areas of interest [finance, services, consulting, sales, manufacturing, legal and materials recovery and diversion] hold seats on the Advisory Board. One of the seven PSDs is then elected to hold the Private Sector Delegate seat on SWANA’s governing Board of Directors.

Private Sector Delegates on the Advisory Board:

  • Must serve on one of SWANA’s three standing committees – Finance, Planning & Membership, and Policy (two to three virtual meetings a year; one in-person at WASTECON)
  • Serves on other organization committees, special-interest committees and working groups as appointed by the SWANA President
  • Participates in ad hoc calls arranged by the Private Sector Director serving on the SWANA Board of Directors
  • Attends the annual Advisory Board meeting, typically held in conjunction with WASTECON each year, to provide input on matters of importance to the Association
  • Attends other meetings of the Advisory Board as called by the President and Advisory Board Chair

The Advisory Board as a whole has a specific role in development of SWANA’s five-year Strategic Plan. That function may lead to additional virtual meetings and/or a request to participate in an in-person planning workshop during plan development.

The 2023 annual meeting will be held in September at WASTECON – Boston.
