Commercial Opportunities in Brazil

SWANA is engaging with the US government and Brazilian solid waste leaders to improve the solid waste infrastructure in Brazil and create commercial opportunities for SWANA members. During WasteExpo next week, SWANA Executive Director/CEO David Biderman will be presenting to the large Brazilian delegation attending that event. The U.S. Embassy in Brazil is considering whether to fund a SWANA training event for Brazilian solid waste stakeholders later this year.

These activities are taking place against the backdrop of new governmental commitments relating to solid waste. On April 14, 2022, the Brazilian government issued a decree approving an ambitious Brazilian Solid Waste Plan (Plano Nacional de Residuos Solidos) which seeks to close dumpsites, expand recycling and waste diversion, and improve the strategies and regulations associated with solid waste collection and disposal.
