Providing Localized Resources

April 23, 2020

During this global pandemic, SWANA Chapters are providing localized resources to their members. With increased safety concerns due to COVID-19, this outreach is critical during these uncertain times.

The Pacific Chapter – BC & Yukon, created a COVID-19 resource page that includes links to SWANA COVID-19 resources and to local government websites. The Chapter has increased its member communications by sending out weekly newsletters and conducting bi-weekly member Zoom calls. They are also implementing Zoom for virtual training events. Using the communication app Slack, the Chapter created a forum that provides real-time resources for its members. The Chapter also created a  localized resource page focusing on resources and actions taking place in British Columbia and Yukon.

The Georgia Chapter held a live, virtual seminar using Zoom to discuss how the pandemic has changed practices for the industry. They will post the recorded seminar and place a link on its website. For the Waste & Recycling Workers Week on June 14 – 20, the Chapter plans to recognize those who work all year long to keep their communities clean and safe. They are asking members to provide a list of names, photos, and stories of these courageous workers.

Is your chapter doing something special during this pandemic? We would love to hear about it. Please let us know by emailing us at membership@swana.org.
