YP Spotlight

February 27, 2020

The SWANA Young Professionals (YP) group continues to grow and expand across the country. SWANA YP members have been busy this past year speaking at SWANA events, leading teams, mentoring students and making strides in every aspect of the industry. With more than 1,000 YPs, their accomplishments are certainly something to be very proud of.

Meet Brandon Hunter, Marketing and Communications Specialist for Greater Greenville Sanitation Commission

Brandon Hunter is the Marketing and Communication Specialist at Greater Greenville Sanitation, a government solid waste and recycling special purpose district based out Greenville, SC. He studied two years at Spartanburg Methodist College before moving on to the College of Charleston to study special education with a concentration in learning and emotional disabilities and environmental geology.

He works closely with the Greenville County School District (44th largest in the U.S), on waste and contamination minimization. He also works with communities throughout the Greater Greenville Sanitation service district, helping them remain knowledgeable and stay up to date on the best sustainable practices. Additionally, he serves on the South Carolina SWANA Board as the Young Professional Representative for the upstate of South Carolina. He holds a leadership role as president with Keep Greenville County Beautiful, a local nonprofit that is affiliated with Keep America Beautiful.

Brandon has worked hard to build a better YP network in South Carolina. He has started doing events for YPs in the state like YP happy hours at state conferences.

"We are seeing more people get involved in SWANA and a younger crowd is wanting to be a part of the things we are doing," Brandon says.

"As a YP Member it has been nice working with people who have been in the industry for years," he added. "They are able to give great advice and continue to teach me more about the industry."

Keep up the great work Brandon!
