US Senate Committee Hearing on Methane Emissions Discusses Measurement Technology

On January 31, the US Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works held a hearing on Avoiding, Detecting, and Capturing Methane Emissions from Landfills.

The panel included representatives from the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA), Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), and Carbon Mapper. The hearing covered a range of topics, including the importance of decreasing emissions from landfills, the use of aerial and ground based measurement technology, efforts to divert organics from landfills, and the importance of incentives for landfill gas capture.

SWANA and NWRA recently submitted comments on the US Treasury Department, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) proposed definition of Energy Property, advocating for gas upgrading equipment to be eligible for the energy tax credits.
