SWANA has distributed two sets of ballots—one to all active members for the officer elections and another to all private and small business members to vote on several actively-contested Private Sector Director seats on the Advisory Board. Voting will run from now until June 2 with results announced later in June.
Slate of Officers
During its winter meeting, SWANA’s Board of Directors authorized candidates for consideration to fill officer positions for the fiscal year that begins July 1, 2022. The candidates are:

- For Vice President, Art Mercer, Supervisor of Landfill Operations, Region of Halton, Oakville, Ontario
- For Treasurer, Tammy L. Hayes, Principal, CDM Smith Inc., Tampa, Florida

- Advancing to Past President, Brenda A. Haney, Solid Waste Director, City of Lubbock, Texas

Private Sector Directors
12 individuals are competing for the four open Private Sector Director positions.
Seven total private sector directors serve on SWANA’s 70-member Advisory Board and associated standing committees (Finance, Planning & Membership, and Policy) to represent the interests of members working in similar areas of focus.

Voting for private sector directors is limited to active private sector and small business members. A separate ballot has been distributed, though the timing of voting for officers and private sector directors runs concurrently from May 16 to June 2.
Members who don’t receive appropriate ballots electronically by the start of business May 17 can email Deputy Executive Director Sara Bixby at sbixby@swana.org to receive an individual ballot. The individual ballot will be available no earlier than noon EDT May 17.
